ViaSat Project
ViaSat is a family of advanced location tracking systems that gather location and usage data for car tracking and fleet management. A ViaSat system displays the GPS information on a Global Information System (GIS) overlay map in a Service Centre. A multifunction AVL unit is installed on cars of ViaSat subscribers. This unit uses GPS technology and the GSM network in order to locate the car position and communicate with the Service Centre. The main software functions of the system are the followings:
• vehicle's monitoring, tracking, dispatching and management,
• remote site control (Service Center),
• theft protection and recovery,
• vehicle's security application, and
• information services.
Client : Nuova Telespazio S.p.A. (1994-97) and ViaSat S.p.A. (1997-98), Rome, Italy . Nuova Telespazio is the Italian governmental company for satellite-based communications. ViaSat is an Italian company specialized in wireless communications and transport safety.
Activity description : Followed the system development since the project beginning. Organized and directed the software development team. Specified the system requirements. Carried out analysis and design for several versions of the system.
Environments/Tools used : RISC 6000/AIX, NetView 6000, PC/Windows NT, ArcInfo/ArcView, C, SADM, Cradle (DFD/ERD-based modeling), Rational Rose (UML-based modeling).
